Letter : Baltimore, Md., to S. F. Steeter, 1848 Nov 29.

ALS written by William J. Barry to S. F. Steeter, Secretary of the Maryland Historical Society, transmitting to the Society copies of two pamphlets written by Pedro Vander-Linden during his service in the Mexican Army. Barry describes events surrounding publication of the pamphlets, titled "Memoria sobre el Cuerpo de Salud militar," (México: impreso por Y. Cumplido, 1845), a plan for reorganization of the medical staff of the Mexican Army, and "Relación que en apoyo de la representación en contra de la circular de 17 de Enero proximo pasado," (México: Tip. de R. Rafael, [1848]), written in answer to a circular letter issued by the Mexican minister of war declaring Vander-Linden a deserter. Barry discusses his acquaintance with Vander-Linden and members of his staff during the American occupation of Mexico City, Vander-Linden's work with Mexican casualties during the occupation, and communications between Vander-Linden and the Mexican government.
